I know this isn’t really the type of vehicle we all salivate for but if you’re curious about the car or its features, fire away!
Initially, my concern is that the car is noticeably bigger with a negligible increase to cargo space. But there are tons of cubbies for storage and Honda has worked hard to make this a family friendly vehicle with little touches.
For example, the middle seats fold back for third row access by using one, child reachable button and most of the surfaces lack ridges and cracks to reduce crumb retention for easy cleaning.
Any questions? Fire away!

The worst/best thing this has going for it in my mind is it looks a lot like a Traverse from a few angles. The Traverse is one of the best selling vehicles in the class. I find this interesting.

How’d you get your hands on one? Auto journo?
I’d love to hear your comments on long term comfort for the front seats and dynamic support from the seats when cornering hard

I’m actually interested in this as a daily driver. How does if feel driving wise compared to the previous gen MDX? How does the new transmission do? Can you post more pics of the interior and storage cubbies?

What is the crumb retention coefficient of this vehicle compared to, say, a LaFerrari?

I was thinking the same thing. That’s very CRV looking.
I must have missed any press or spy shots of the refresh.

The Traverse, dare I say it, is actually a really good vehicle and it looks good. That’s why they sell so many.

I’ll give honda some credit for putting their badge in middle of the three horizontal bars.

My in laws have a ‘13 Pilot. That thing has an insane amount of cupholders and areas for convenient storage. Great family vehicle... I’d consider one as an alternative to the Tahoe group.

How conductive are the interior acoustics to a multi-cultural gaggle of children doing an acapella rendition of an Ozzy song?

Couldn’t agree more. It’s aged incredibly well. Though, oddly, I can’t say the same for the Buick Enclave. That thing needs to be overhauled from the ground up.

I’m guessing good enough to function for purposes of procreation as a primary function, with mild pleasure secondary. Not spectacular (hot hatch) or woefully inadequate (bro truck).
We need to develop a scale for this sort of thing. For science / reference.

Yeah the Buick definitely isn’t worth the premium they charge over the Traverse. Too much of that mirror-like Chrome and odd styling for me. The Traverse is handsome as is the Acadia, even if it is just a refreshed Saturn Outlook.
![]() 05/05/2015 at 15:23 |
|
I really dig the Satur.....err.....GMC Acadia. Not sure why. The Buick’s that we just got on our used lot (franchised Chevy dealer here) barely have 25K on them and look worse than their Traverse coutnerparts. The Traverse’s, however, have similar mileage and have held up far better. The Buick’s have similar material quality and the higher quality stuff just doesn’t look or feel it where it should. Hopefully the next gen will be better. I still like the overall look, however, would never pay the premium (new) for the Buick. Used? There may be a case for that.
![]() 05/05/2015 at 15:35 |

The Acadia has a more masculine look to it than its counterparts so that could be why. The refreshed Buick isn’t too bad but the 2008-2012 models look so dated and just bad in general. Do you know when the redesign is supposed to be by chance?

I’ve only heard rumors of 2018. 2017 has been tossed around as well. I hope it’s soon.

Maybe late 2017 as a 2018 model. It seems almost their whole lineup is moving on to a new generation for 2018.

Can’t relate to a LaFerrari but I can say that the bare carbon on one wipes clean very easily so it might come out ahead.

I actually haven’t driven an MDX so I couldn’t say. I’m about to post a ton of interior pics just for you!

Very close relative. They had one on hand for us to test drive and compare, though I didn’t have time to do that.

The Pilot is the cipholder champ. I counted 15 separate cupholders/cubby holes for storage in the front seat area alone! Honda rules the roost when it comes to storage spaces.

Yup! I work for Driving.ca and we’ll have a full review up on May 20th. And the front seats are superb.

![]() 05/06/2015 at 00:09 |

Yeah, I can definitely see that. I am really seeing it more in the profile/front 3/4. Again, not a bad thing. How’s the interior quality? The last Pilot I was in (most recent gen) was laden with horrible thin plastics and nothing to write home about textures.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 00:10 |

I hope for sooner rather than later. They are getting long in tooth (even if they are still capable and competitive for the most part).
![]() 05/06/2015 at 01:05 |

I don’t think GM is in too much of a rush, they still sell tons of them. The Equinox has went pretty much unchanged since 2010 and they still sold almost 30k of them in April alone this year, thats 8,000 more than April 2014. GM cars clearly can’t be as bad as everyone tries to make them out to be if people keep coming back to them.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 09:09 |
|
Agreed. And this is the point I try to make to people all the time. Would I like a little better quality interior? Sure. But they’re more than adequate, reliable, and stylish vehicles that are just easy to maintain. Most in that segment, that’s what they want.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 13:48 |

The interior’s really aren’t that bad. For example Ford, though they have nice cars now, their interiors are still very weak in regard to materials.
You comment goes for the whole Chevy lineup though such as the Malibu. It may not be the most attractive mid-size and it’s not perfect but it gets the job done and does it well.
